Science as Social

Coastal communities not only foster a deep connection to place, but also to community. In many of the conversations I had with beachwalkers, they talked about the fond memories they carried of spending time with family and friends or being a part of a larger scientific community.

The Bilderbacks talked to me about how they first got involved in COASST and how spending time with Diane’s mom was a valuable part of doing the monthly surveys together.

Donna talks about some of the reasons she values her participation in COASST and how that participation connects her to a larger community, making visible things she may not have been aware of otherwise.
